Pay Per Click Advertising

If you’ve turned on the TV or picked up a newspaper recently, you probably know that in a few short years, Facebook has gone from a small website run out of a dorm room to one of the most frequently visited sites on the internet. The worth of the company is estimated in the billions, yet Facebook as a social networking service is completely free. “How”, you might ask “do they make money?”

Though Facebook does not charge a fee for its 500 million + users, it does have access to much of their personal information and commands a great deal of their attention. This combination of attributes makes the social networking site an advertiser’s dream come true. Facebook has enabled businesses of all sizes to reach their target audiences with incredible accuracy and post ROI rates that often dwarf that of traditional mass media.

There are a few compelling case studies that can be found in the “Advertising” of their webpage.  I’ve pasted one of their examples below.

StorQuest Self Storage

Facebook Ads makes it easy and cost-effective to quickly set up and manage your campaign. G5 found success setting up a series of Facebook Ad campaigns targeted to college students at 21 campuses prior to Summer break for StorQuest self service storage facilities. Real-time suggested bids for our auction-based system provided guidance that enabled G5 to hone ad effectiveness based on their various targeting filters (age, college level and location).

The results from StorQuest’s Facebook ad campaign were one of their highest performing online advertising efforts:

  • Over 50% increase in total rentals versus prior year at the same store.
  • 10% conversion rate from visits originating from Facebook Ads.
  • On par with Google AdWords on a cost-per-lead and cost-per-customer basis.
  • $1.25 CPC delivered $10.25 cost-per-lead.
  • $100 average rentals; $600 average life time value per customer.
